Significance/need of the programme:- To mark a call to action for accelerating Mental awareness (Mental Health Matters)
Mental Health programme was organized by Degree College Boys Baramulla where many schools and colleges participated and our college participated too. It started with welcome and some music. Then after that the programme started well and speeches were given from every school and college. Our college also gave speech on Psychological well being where important points were told what Mental illness is and how it happens. Ms. Iyman (Speaker from Sanctorum College) stressed on behavioural and mental health problems eg. Depression, anxiety, mood disturbances.
Speaking further everyone spoke their thoughts on mental health by saying that mental health has been hidden behind a curtain of stigma and discrimination for too long. It is time to bring it out into the open. The magnitude, suffering and burden in terms of disability and costs for individuals, families and societies are staggering. Mental health conditions have a significant impact on the development of youth and their social – economic integration, including employability. Yet, it is also critical that attention to global mental health moves beyond treatment-oriented programmes in health care settings to include broader approaches inspired by public health and social inclusion consideration. Mental health awareness is the ongoing effort to reduce the stigma around mental illness and mental conditions by sharing personal experiences. Lastly, it was said that mental health is not a disease, we should speak up, we should come forward and face this mental health. Mental health should not be hidden nor should one think of suicide because life is very precious.
